Dr.
Ross, assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and
Counseling, considers himself a subject-matter expert of the highest caliber,
offering an ideal balance of in-depth theoretical knowledge and real-world
practice to best prepare tomorrow's therapist. He
subscribes to a scholar-practitioner approach to counselor education, where
learners are encouraged to apply theoretical principles and research to their
professional practice. He has an extensive background as a counselor and
administrator of substance abuse, mental health and educational programs.
His
areas of academic interest include organizational development, consultation,
identity formation in minority youth, and multicultural counseling. Passionate
about higher education and online learning, Dr. Ross' focus is to help students
achieve their life-long educational goals.
His
research efforts have resulted in the funding of two Texas A&M
University Regent’s Collaborative Grants. His current research projects include
a study investigating the impact of site-based management on the role and job
responsibilities of public school counselors. In addition, he has recently
submitted two research articles for publication entitled, “Interracial Dating:
The Impact of Demographic Variables on the Perception of College Students”, and
“Multicultural Counselor Training Competencies: An Annotated Bibliography.”
His
instructional responsibilities include, Human Growth & Development, Group
Dynamics, Research, Cross-Cultural Issues and Professional Orientation -
Introduction to Counseling.
